Bolo, a 12 year old DireWolf Dog

The Dire Wolf Project Longevity Program™ is a long-term program developed by our founder, Lois Schwarz, in which each Dire Wolf Project certified breeder continually seeks to increase the average age of the American Dirus dog through careful breeding practices that promote the overall health of each dog bred. A combination of certified health testing, DNA analysis, and the use of God's Breeding Plan™ aide each breeder along the way.

In order to meet the requirements of the Dire Wolf Project Longevity Program™, each Dire Wolf Project certified breeder works in conjunction with the DireWolf Dogs Int'l health program called God's Breeding Plan™. This program simulates the exceptional health gained by wolves in the wild through survival of the fittest. It has been recorded that wild wolves living in captivity live on average to 20 years of age. It is the position of DireWolf Dogs, Int'l that strongbred dog breeds, no matter their size, should accept no less of an average lifespan.

Health evaluations are vital to the success of the Dire Wolf Project Longevity Program™. We DNA test ALL American Dirus dogs born into the program and formally health test our breeding dogs based on the health assessment needs of the breed at the time. This information must be clearly presented on each Dire Wolf Project certified breeder's website and is recorded at the International American Dirus Registry department of health. All breeding stock is constantly monitored for any signs of limping, disorientation, tremors, and seizures.
