Your vet won’t say it, but I will.

Akasha has always been raw fed

I’ve kinda gone a little crazy on the whole prey model raw diet thing lately.

I know I have.

But there is a good reason for it.

A VERY good reason.

This morning, as Jay was checking over Barracuda’s surgery site (from last week’s spay), he gasped in disbelief and exclaimed, “The entire wound is split open!”

“How can this be?” I wondered.

Vets always suture the wound up nice and tight.

Did Barracuda rip out her sutures?

No way!

Well, apparently vets aren’t doing sutures for the outside layer of skin anymore.

They have decided (at least at our vet) to use WOUND GLUE!

Now, we humans could probably leave such a thing alone, but a dog loves to lick its wounds clean… hence why cones are needed.

Well, apparently, Barracuda got in enough licks to lick all the glue right off of the site, causing the entire wound to reopen.

And there is no way that long incision is going to be fixed with a Band-Aid and more cone time.

It simply has to be sewn. (Or glued back together?)

I have to say, after today’s fiasco of rushing back down to the vet, I am definitely NOT a fan of using wound glue on dogs.

I will not be allowing that new veterinary protocol for any dog needing surgery in the future, just FYI.

So, Jay and I are sitting with Barracuda in the veterinary lobby, and I couldn’t help but look over at this large white German Shepherd Dog.

I could tell that he was once very regal and well-structured with a gently sloped back, not over-angulated like many German Shepherd Dogs are today.

There was only one problem.

This once glorious white German Shepherd Dog was morbidly overweight and panting heavily as he lay on those weathered joints on the cold tile floors of the vet’s office.

I knew instantly what the issue was.

But that’s likely not why his owner was there.

These are classic symptoms of the modern family dog.

And in my opinion, this dog was suffering from severe obesity and systemic, whole-body inflammation caused by years of eating a highly processed kibble diet.

His eyes didn’t even look all that old, despite the age his body looked.

And when they called his name, the entire picture fell into place.

“We’re ready for Cookie.” the attendant called out above the other waiting families in the lobby.

And sure enough, those strained bones lifted his body up off the floor with a groan as he walked obediently slightly behind his owner disappearing into a sterilized room down the hall.

I wanted so badly to take that beautiful dog home and bring him back to health once again.

But I don’t have a formal degree, and I never went to vet school or earned a canine nutritionist certificate.

I’ve only personally lived through exactly what Cookie is going through right now.

I was duped for years that red meat and saturated fats were the cause of so many of our health problems.

I basically killed my metabolism on a 35-year-long vegetarian diet by over-compensating for the lack of protein with an excessive amount of carbohydrates and sugar-rich foods.

And now I know better.

Since switching from a vegetarian diet to a carnivore diet (as a human omnivore), I’ve lost 100 lbs and my systemic inflammation is gone.

Along the way, I somehow cured my hypothyroidism and pre-diabetes, too.

And I know in every fiber of my being that Cookie could be cured, too, from his obesity and severe inflammation.

You see, Cookie is a CARNIVORE, not an omnivore, like I am.

He is supposed to eat the vast majority of his food as muscle meat, fat, bone, and organs.

And yet, I know Cookie has been fed a diet rich in starch for a long time now, just by looking at him.

The vets won’t tell his owner that, though.

As they always do, they’ll treat his symptoms with more pharmaceuticals.

And that’s because doctors can’t claim food cures anything.

If they did, the FDA would have to regulate it, because of how ‘medicine’ is formally defined in the United States.

So, vets continue to medicate the symptoms with more pills and procedures when the issue is the dog’s entire diet.

That’s why I’ve finally decided to speak up about this terrible unnecessary tragedy.

Our loyal tail-wagging companions cannot speak up for themselves, but if they could choose, they would always choose real meat over dry kibble.

Who would have thought such a statement would be so controversial, but it is.

The comment section on these few latest videos proves just how much confusion there is out there in the world on how to best feed a dog for ultimate health.

That’s why this week’s Movie Monday is all about how…

Kibble Is Killing Your Dog!

Quick!

Don’t go another day without learning why:
