How to clip black toenails
By Jennifer Stoeckl, MAT - Dire Wolf Project CEO, Nov. 19, 2024
It’s so great to have Jay home from the last DireWolf Express trip.
What a fun story about the military dog memorial cemetery, right?!
I am glad Americans honor those amazingly brave and devoted souls like that.
While DireWolf Dogs, with their relatively low prey/play drive, do not make serious military or police dogs, many of our DireWolf Dogs have gone on to become excellent service dogs.
They especially excel in the PTSD and mobility service dog categories.
But it is important to note they do not train the same way as those dogs typically chosen for service work.
In fact, it’s pretty much an opposite way of training for our more sensitive DireWolf Dogs.
If you are curious, I wrote an article a few years back explaining why that is.
Here’s the link:

But that’s not what I wanted to talk to you about today.
I’ve been a busy girl while Jay’s been driving across our vast country delivering the puppies directly to their new homes.
I recently created a comprehensive guide on exactly how to clip a giant dog’s black toenails.
It takes patience, research, training, and determination to do it correctly, but you can do it!
It’s also a great bonding opportunity for your dog.
And builds trust with your dog.
After all, willingly giving you a paw, knowing that you could clip their nail too short and hurt them, is a huge trust exercise.
And as I always say, it’s up to you to earn your dog’s trust through a bonded, loving relationship.
So, here you go.

Never pay someone else for toenail clipping again!
