I Would Not Wish This Decision on Anyone

Willow (Formly Merple)

There are moments when loving a dog feels less like joy and more like standing at the edge of a cliff, knowing that whichever way you step will change your life forever.

Beth is standing there right now.

She is one of ours in the truest sense of the word.

She is kind in the quiet ways that do not seek attention, and she gives of herself even when her own heart is tired.

Life has asked a lot of her over the years, and she has answered with grace more often than anyone should be expected to, even when grief has followed close behind.

Her puppy, Willow, formerly Merple from the Fraggle Rock litter out of Dublin and Clementine, has been diagnosed with bilateral ectopic ureters.

In a healthy dog, urine drains smoothly from the kidneys into the bladder through two small tubes called ureters.

In Willow’s body, those tubes do not connect where they should.

Instead, urine pushes back toward her kidneys, creating constant pressure and inflammation.

The result is steady pain and growing risk, through no fault of her own.

Beth knows this kind of heartbreak.

Years ago, she lost a puppy named Ophelia to kidney disease.

When she came to us again, she spoke with careful hope, not asking for perfection, only for the chance to love a dog without watching the clock run out too soon.

She had known that peace three times before with her other DireWolf Dogs, and she dared to believe she might know it again.

Of course, Willow has no idea any of this is happening.

She wakes each morning believing the world is safe.

She drinks gallons of water constantly because her body is trying, with everything it has, to protect itself.

She curls up against Beth with complete trust, offering joy, affection, and that soft, steady companionship that only dogs seem able to give so freely.

Unfortunately, both of Willow’s kidneys are inflamed now because urine cannot drain the way it should.

The surgery to correct this problem is well understood and gives her a real chance at a long, healthy life.

This is not a hopeless situation; it is simply an expensive one.

Beth has already spent more than ten thousand dollars trying to help her, and the surgery itself is expected to cost at least another six thousand, with more care likely afterward.

Veterinary costs in Massachusetts are among the highest in the country, and the financial weight has become crushing.

This is the question Beth carries with her when the house is quiet.

  1. Do you take on overwhelming debt before your puppy’s life has truly begun, knowing it will follow you for years?

  2. Or do you let go of a dog who can be helped, not because she cannot be saved, but because the cost feels impossible to survive?

No one should have to face that choice alone.

This is where the Inner Circle becomes what it was always meant to be.

We are a pack.

When one of our own is struggling under a weight too heavy to carry, the rest step in.

We stay close and lift together.

So that is why, from January 22nd (today) through February 3rd, 100% of the net proceeds from the Dire Wolf Project Gift Shop will be donated directly to Beth to help with Willow’s medical care.

If you purchase something from the gift shop during that time, you are helping to carry this burden with her.

(If you would rather give directly, every dollar sent to Jody Lynn’s Venmo account, @JodyJanisse, will go straight to Beth.)

We chose Venmo because platforms like GoFundMe and GiveSendGo take a percentage in fees, while Venmo allows us to send and receive funds without any deductions, ensuring every dollar reaches Beth and Willow exactly as intended.

Beth has spent years being strong for others.

Now she needs her pack beside her.

Willow needs it too, even if she does not yet understand why.

Thank you for being the kind of family that shows up when love becomes heavy.

Thank you for reminding one of our own that she does not have to stand at the edge all alone.

And someday, if you should need the Inner Circle’s help and support, our community will be there to stand beside you, too.
