Three adults found their forever homes!
By Jennifer Stoeckl, MAT - Dire Wolf Project CEO, Dec. 1, 2025
This morning, I have the kind of news that sends a happy bark echoing across the whole valley.
This Black Friday season, three wonderful adult American Dirus™ dogs stepped out of the shadows of “waiting” and into the arms of their forever families.
And oh… what glorious homes they’re heading toward!
- Cookie Monster, with his soft, thoughtful eyes and gentle, “may I?” approach to every new moment…
- Barracuda, the steady sweetheart whose heart is far calmer than her name suggests…
- Chisel, that devoted, quietly observant boy who melts the second you scratch the perfect spot behind his ear…
All three have now found their people.
Their true pack.
And my heart is howling with joy!
But before they set off to begin their new lives, there is an important three-week migration they’ll be making right here with me.
I promised a transformation, so it’s time to get that fully underway.
The Three-Week Transformation Begins
(And oh, it’s going to be good.)
Just like I shared in our Black Friday Extravaganza, these three lucky dogs will now receive three full weeks of intensive, individualized training with me.
This is training I rarely, rarely offer, because it requires every ounce of time, energy, and intention I possess.
But for these three sweet souls?
Well, it’s a joy-filled privilege.
And it’s also a responsibility I take on with the loyal heart of a dire wolf.
Here’s what’s ahead for Cookie Monster, Barracuda, and Chisel over the next 21 days:
- House & Home Training
They’ll learn how to move through a home with the quiet confidence of a mature packmate—
no pacing, no wandering, no confusion.
Just calm, respectful presence and a natural sense of belonging. - Potty Training
Even adults sometimes need clarification on rules of the new territory.
They’ll learn the rhythms, signals, routines, and rules that make living with their new humans feel smooth as glacial stone. - Leash Manners & Walking Etiquette
Loose-leash walking, attention around distractions, “Check in with your human”, and how to stroll like a civilized canine citizen of the realm. (Our tiny forest roads will soon echo with their gentle paws and my cheerful, “Good boy! Yes!”) - Obedience: The Calm, Connected Kind
Sit, down, stay, recall, wait—the basics, yes… but woven together with the calm, sensitive way: No heavy pressure or chaos, and lots relationship-building. - Socialization
People. Dogs. New places. New sounds. New textures underfoot. New smells in their noses. Each of these American Dirus™ dogs will build confidence by experiencing the world in carefully crafted doses… not too much and not too little. Just right for their sensitive hearts. - Travel Manners
Because a DireWolf Dog who can’t ride in a car is like a hunter who can’t cross the valley. We’ll go on countless drives
through the forest, into town, past strange noises, and into new environments so by the time they go home, they’ll travel like seasoned adventurers. - Real-World Cultural Field Trips
This is the part I love. Walking across different terrains. Strolling past storefronts. Waiting calmly at crosswalks. Learning what a grocery cart sounds like rolling over pavement. Visiting farm stores and pet shops. These aren’t just “lessons.” They’re the building blocks of adult canine wisdom. - Bonding & Emotional Stability
Every day, these three boys will learn what it means to trust deeply, confidently, and safely; to show affection gently, accept guidance willingly, and move through the human world with the steady heartbeat of a DireWolf Dog who knows his place in the pack.
Cookie Monster, Barracuda, and Chisel don’t know it yet… but their whole worlds are about to open.
And as I work with them, I’ll be thinking of their new families, waiting with warm hands and open hearts.
In just a few weeks, these dogs will step out of my forest den and into new lives, new routines, and new bonds.
And I couldn’t be happier for them.
For their families.
And for what this beautiful breed continues to become.
MOVIE MONDAY
Long ago, when the world shivered beneath the cold breath of the Pleistocene, North America looked like a continent carved by giants. In this week’s movie, we explore that world and how, today, we can still trace its old tracks. Let’s follow the rise of the dire wolves, the shifting landscape, and the echoes that still shape the home range we live in today.
