Vet check-up day has arrived!

Today’s the day the puppies travel to Davenport Veterinary Clinic for a full health check-up before the big DireWolf Express trip.

Dr. Dale Carnegie is an experienced small and large animal veterinarian.

He is an OLD STYLE vet that becomes more rare with each passing year.

The kind that does house calls and doesn’t push special high-priced, affiliated kibble diets, like Science Diet, that I absolutely detest.

The type that understands an owner’s need to take care of their animal without going bankrupt.

He doesn’t push expensive tests first, but looks at the more common, less expensive options to rule them out.

There are no fancy million-dollar machines in the back, just a blood analyzer, x-ray machine, and ultra-sound monitor.

He still goes out calving every spring, helping ranchers give the best care to their livestock.

Our old school vet lets us help with certain easy things. He invites us in to see what’s going on and be there with our dogs should they need us.

And when he makes a mistake, as all vets do, he is honest about what happened, apologizes, and makes it right.

There is no ego or pretension.

He doesn’t hide behind his wall of degrees.

But he sure will work to find out what’s going on, no matter the time it takes or the study he must do.

Dr. Dale’s wife works the front office and a local cowgirl, born and raised in the area, is his vet technician.

A real person answers the phone and I can always get an appointment within the week if needed.

He has even helped me in a pinch FROM HIS HOME on his day off.

Never any judgment… just help when its needed.

I wish all families could find a country vet just like Dr. Dale Carnegie.

If you still have country vets in your area, cherish them.

Send them thank you cards and gift baskets at Christmas.

Tell them how much they mean to you and treat them like gold.

They are a dying breed.

The puppies will be in good hands with Dr. Dale tomorrow as he checks them over for anything abnormal.

We hope for clean bills of health for all the puppies!

And Monstro… and Narissa… who have recently found their forever homes, too.

It’s time to prepare for the DireWolf Express trip leaving on Thursday, January 25th.
