Fall 2023 Future Litters Updates
By Jennifer Stoeckl, MAT - Dire Wolf Project CEO, Aug. 4, 2023Welcome to another Friday!
I hope you have some amazing plans for this weekend.
I am going to be spending some quality time with my buddy, Vlad, which is always a great time.
In this email, I want to update you on what I know about the future fall litters.
A few have asked me how things are going with the proposed litters, so I know it’s time for an official update.
As you may know if you’ve been keeping up with us, we placed three females together with three males when they came into heat in late June.
Jesse was placed together with Essex for the proposed “Murder Mystery Litter”.
Albreta was placed together with Vlad for the proposed “Iditarod Litter”
Clementine was placed together with Stanley for the proposed “Celestial Beings Litter”.
Here is the link to more information about each one of these matches:

Dogs have a gestation period of 63 days.
The first month of development puppies grow at around the same rate as a human baby. This is the reason why the first month shows no signs of pregnancy. The second month of development puppies grow at a much more accelerated rate. It is at this time that I can begin to see outward signs of a pregnancy if puppies are on the way.
It is usually pretty clear by the 5th-6th week of development.
At this point, we are pretty close to that timeframe.
I have been looking for signs of pregnancy for the last few days.
Jesse was bred first and shows no outward signs of pregnancy. I do not believe the Murder Mystery Litter puppies will be arriving this fall.
I had to do a double take this morning when Clementine placed her paws with such sweetness on the fence for her daily pets. I am not quite certain, but my mind wondered. So, Clementine is a question mark.
Albreta looked broad in the belly this morning. By midday when I checked on the dogs again, she still seemed large in that area. I have a much stronger feeling that Albreta is showing signs of little babies growing inside.
Just last year, for the first time ever, a canine pregnancy test came on the market.
I bought a bunch of them.
Unfortunately, dogs aren’t the same as humans. It’s not a simple urine test. It is a blood test, which means that I have to prick a dog’s skin to obtain results.
Dogs don’t tend to like being pricked with needles, you know.
But in order to gather the blood to use on the test, the dog has to stand still enough for me to grab a few drops. NOT an easy job!
But I will see if I can manage to complete a pregnancy test for both Clementine and Albreta this weekend to know for sure.
So watch out for Monday’s email for a more definitive answer to whether puppies are on their way this fall.
Much love to you. Stay safe and well this weekend,
