She hadn't seen her mother in a week...

It had been about a week since Valentine last saw her mother.

In that time, she settled fully into the Candy Crush litter.

She slept with them, moved with them, and followed their rhythm as though she had always been part of that little pack.

But yesterday… Yeti came into the pen.

At first, there was that brief moment of recognition.

Valentine paused, looked up, and then everything in her body changed.

She rushed forward with that uncontained energy that only a young puppy has when something truly matters to her.

Her whole body trembled as she moved, her front feet lifting and landing in quick little hops as she circled in close.

She pressed herself under Yeti’s chest, pushing upward, reaching for her face, her muzzle finding its way along her mother’s jaw as if confirming what she already knew.

It was her!

And Yeti answered her without hesitation.

She lowered her head, then lifted one of her great front legs and placed it gently around Valentine’s neck, drawing her in close against her chest.

The movement was deliberate and steady, a quiet act of gathering her back in.

Valentine stayed there.

Pressed into her.

You could hear the soft little yips coming from her soul…

small bursts of sound that carried more feeling than noise, rising and falling as she shifted and tucked herself closer.

Yeti held her there, her leg resting across Valentine’s shoulders, and her body curved just enough to contain her, as though nothing else required her attention in that moment.

They remained like that for several minutes in a clear, unmistakable connection between them.

Watching it, I couldn’t help but be filled up with a rich kind of feeling.

What a truly remarkable bond they have.

Time has passed and distance has changed their daily rhythms, but none of it had altered the devotion that existed between them.

Valentine carries that deep affection with her.

It is an integral part of who she is.

And one day, she will bring that same kind of connection into someone’s home.

She will follow closely, press in during quiet moments, and form that steady, unspoken bond that turns a house into something so much more.

There is a family out there who will experience that with her.

The only question is… which family will it be?

Some connections do not need to be explained.

They only need to be experienced.
