This puppy didn't want to be left out.

Poor puppy, Patrick!

He was so sad.

When Dreamer stepped into the whelping pen and laid down in the back corner, all the puppies rushed over to her for their next meal.

But…

The puppies are SO big now, there isn’t enough room for everyone.

Poor Patrick, he arrived after the other four puppies had already latched on.

Try as he might, he just couldn’t find a way in.

He was calm at first, stepping on top of the other puppies like pillows to find a spare spot.

Those four black fluffy puppy butts just wouldn’t budge.

He walked back and forth, but no one seemed to care that he wasn’t able to drink his dinner like they were.

His four white paws eventually came to Dreamer’s back leg.

He stepped too quickly and slipped.

PLOP!

He rolled right onto his big ol’ noggin!

That’s when he began to cry.

The frustration at being left out welled up deep within him.

He was hungry, too, but nobody seemed to care.

He grunted and sobbed.

After a few seconds wallowing in his misery, he rolled back over onto his pink puppy paws and tried again.

He poked his nose under Dreamer’s back leg, but now that he has grown so much, he isn’t able to shift it high enough to crawl under.

He whined his malcontent.

Then, he walked over his siblings again toward his mother’s front.

He pushed his muzzle under her front leg, but again met with resistance.

In his desperation, he climbed on top of Dreamer and howled a mournful sound.

From my observation perch outside the whelping pen, I wondered if he was ever going to find a way.

But, Patrick do NOT give up!

He wiggled his nose in between the pile of suckling puppies.

With some force, he was able to dislodge his brother, Lucky Charms.

Patrick didn’t hesitate to latch on and drink mightily.

But, his big body was in an awkward position, since he was still on top of the other puppies.

When Lucky Charms moved away from Patrick’s clamoring, Patrick’s body flopped over so that his four white-dipped paws flipped straight up into the air.

Still excited about winning his prize, he was NOT going to give up his place at the milk bar.

He simply twisted his mouth and continued suckling… UPSIDE DOWN!
