Why I changed my mind... again.

Wolf puppies the same age as Pumpkin Patch

You know what they say—it's a woman’s prerogative to change her mind.

Well, I’ve done it again.

I was absolutely, positively certain I wasn’t keeping a puppy from the Harvest Litter.

I even gave myself a pep talk.

You see, I have more than enough dogs and I wasn’t convinced that any of these pups were going to fit my breeding program.

Plus, who needs the extra energy of a Labrador/Shepherd cross when you've got years of calm, giant dogs in the making?

And yet… here we are.

I’d already told myself that Pumpkin Patch, the black-collared wolf-gray male, was a no-go.

He’s got energy, thanks to his Lab/Shepherd grandma, Opal, and he’s not exactly giant-sized.

But then something happened.

*Cue the dramatic music.

I walked outside the other day, and his small ears were up—completely erect—and his wolf mask was out in full force.

Oh, and the slanted bright yellow eyes didn’t help either.

Honestly, if I didn’t know better, I’d swear a wolf pup had wandered into my yard.

I mean, seriously!

Exactly like a wolf puppy.

Now, despite that higher energy (yes, he barks and loves a good zoomie), he’s got confidence, and more importantly, he’s willing to be submissive.

No resource guarding, no bullying, none of the "I’m going to be the boss" attitude.

If anything, he’s the picture of a well-balanced temperament for a second generation pup—honestly, not bad at all.

And let’s not forget Dublin, who was supposed to be my guy.

My calm, giant-sized rock.

But, alas, he’s developed a bit of a structural quirk—cow-hocked back legs along with his drop ears.

So you see…

I can’t just let Pumpkin Patch walk out of the project with those pristine wolfy looks and that potential to balance out Dublin’s flaws.

Who knows what Pumpkin Patch might bring to the next generation?

I mean, can you really blame me for keeping him?

So yes, I changed my mind.

Again.

Maybe I’m just keeping my options open.

Or maybe I’m just hopeless when it comes to a dog who looks like he walked straight out of the wild.

Either way, Pumpkin Patch is staying.

P.S. Don’t judge me too harshly!

You can see Pumpkin Patch’s updated pictures on the Harvest Litter page:

Compare Pumpkin Patch to these timber wolf pups around his same age! EXCITING!

P.P.S. We are going down the active waiting list right now! (Check the litter pages above to find out which ones.)

You can follow along by monitoring the waiting list to see which family I am speaking with.

https://direwolfproject.com/direwolf-dogs/waiting-list/

If the family chooses, their name will move from the waiting list to their puppy’s name.

If they decide to continue to wait, I will unbold their name on the list and bold the next active name.

So exciting!
