Drop an object into the den away from the pups. This puppy did not startle, did not look up or around, and did not whine or cry out. This puppy receives a score of 10 for this category.

Using your whole hand, roughly pet the pup from muzzle to tail. This puppy sat down during the pet. He was completely silent and did not yawn. There was some movement forward, but not much. This puppy receives a score of 9 for this category.

Pick up the pup from its den using your whole hand to simulate mother dog's mouth. This puppy had one small struggle then submitted and gave a yawn. This pup was silent. This puppy receives a score of 8 for this category.

Turn the pup over on its back securely supported. This puppy was quiet and was loose during the turn. There was some initial feeble flailing and light grunting and soft crying out, but he went limp and loose after two seconds. He remained limp for thirty seconds. This puppy receives a score of 9 for this category.

Place the pup in a high-sided wicker basket by itself. How does this pup act when separated from littermates? This puppy looked around and moved his body around as well as looked up, but did not jump up onto the sides. This puppy whined softly. This puppy receives a score of 8 for this category.
