Puppy #9 - Chip - Ninth puppy born at 1:15am PST weighing in at 1 lb 4 oz.

He was quiet and calm at birth and waited for Mom to clean him.

This puppy came into the world calm and collected. He was quiet and travels with ease. Moved in a straight line no noise when pet. Flailed, no noise, when lifted. Struggled initially for five seconds, whining out loudly, then submitted and was calm/quiet. Moved head back and forth, stopped as if thinking, then moved head again, then stopped for fifteen seconds, as if sleeping, then moved directly in the direction of the group and went back to sleep. Not traumatized. This puppy receives a score of 8.85 for this temperament test.

This puppy was quiet during the rough pet. He did, however, move back and away from the pet initially. He stiffened his head somewhat initially as well. Then he relaxed and was quiet and accepting. This puppy was extremely quiet, loose, and relaxed at the lift. He was also extremely relaxed and loose when turned over on his back. He did not whine or cry out and did not struggle. Instead he allowed his legs and tail to dangle loosely. This puppy was a bit head shy when he was pet after the turn, close in to the handler's chest. In the basket, this puppy moved about in all directions until he came to the corner. At this point, he stood up on the basket's edges and looked over the edge with his front paws hanging onto the side. This is highly unusual behavior for our breed and indicates a willingness to go up onto objects and search his surroundings. He appears to be extremely smart and capable of problem-solving through difficult problems. When placed back into the den away from his siblings, he sniffed the handler's feet for a few seconds. At that point, he walked right over the handler's feet to move back to the pile of puppies. This is also highly unusual and goes with his willingness to jump up on the side of the basket. He does not appear to regard obstacles in his path as a challenge and simply goes through or over. He went straight back to the puppies. When he sniffed where they were, he deliberately turned around and went away from them to potty on the pee pad, indicating a strong desire to not soil his sleeping area. He then again headed correctly in the direction of the puppies and went back to sleep. 

This puppy receives a score of 9.3 for this temperament test.
